BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong here on Tuesday expressed the expectation that youth exchanges would inject positive energy into Sino-Japanese ties.
She made the call at a friendship exchange meeting of 1,000 university students from China and Japan at Peking University.
She encouraged students to learn from history and look into the future, cherish opportunities to cultivate friendship and mutual understanding, and to cement relationships.
The meeting marks the 45th anniversary of the normalization of Sino-Japanese diplomatic relations.
Liu said that even though ties underwent twists and turns during the 45 years, cooperation in all fields had made progress, which benefited young people a lot.
She also hoped the students would have firm belief in the two countries' peaceful co-existence and friendship for generations to come.

KIGALI, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on Tuesday arrived in the Rwandan capital Kigali , starting his two-day visit in Rwanda as part of the visit to four African countries.
Upon landing at Kigali International Airport at around 11:55 a.m., Sisi was received by Rwandan President Paul Kagame, and greeted by an honor guard detachment mounted by Rwanda Defence Forces.
The visit comes within the framework of Sisi's effort to strengthen political and economic ties with other African countries to accelerate cooperation on various issues geared towards the growth of the continent.
At his arrival, the Egyptian leader headed to Kigali Genocide Memorial to honor the victims of the 1994 genocide where he laid wreath on mass graves of genocide victims at the memorial.
Speaking to reporters, Namira Negm, Egyptian ambassador to Rwanda said that Egypt and Rwanda enjoy cordial relationship but the visit will cement it further.
"Our president's visit to Rwanda and the region will focus mainly on promoting trade ties and boosting political and economic relations," she said.
Before visiting Rwanda, Sisi visited Tanzania and he is expected to visit Chad on Thursday, and then to Gabon.
Diplomatic relations between Rwanda and Egypt have been strengthened in recent years with both countries establishing diplomatic missions in the two respective capitals.
In 2015, Rwanda appointed the first ambassador resident in Egyptian capital Cairo, the former mufti of Rwanda, Sheikh Saleh Habimana.
Statistics from the Rwandan ministry of trade indicated Rwanda generated 30 million U.S. dollars in 2015 in exports to Egypt while Egypt earned 64 million dollars from exports to Rwanda.
Every year, the Egypt and Middle East trade show is organized in Rwanda, during which products made in Egypt are exhibited which attracts local market from Rwanda hence boosting Egyptian investments to the small central African country.
