GENEVA Women's Nike VaporMax Moc Flyknit Triple Black , May 15 (Xinhua) -- The World Health Organization (WHO) on Thursday said the global life expectancy witnesses "large" gain for children born in 2012 than that born in 1990.
The report, titled "World health statistics 2014" and released by WHO, based on global averages, expected a girl who born in 2012 can live to around 73 years, and a boy to the age of 68.
The annual statistics report showed that low-income countries have made the greatest progress, with an average increase in life expectancy by 9 years from 1990 to 2012, higher than the global average increase level of six.
According to the report, Liberia saw a biggest 20-year life expectancy increase worldwide, followed by Ethiopia, Maldives, Cambodia.
"An important reason why global life expectancy has improved so much is that fewer children are dying before their fifth birthday," Margaret Chan, WHO director general said in a statement.
However, she warned that the major rich-poor divide still existed, people in high-income countries continued to have a much better chance of living longer than people in low-income countries.
Statistics showed a boy born in 2012 in a high-income country could expect to live to the age of around 76, 16 years longer than a boy born in a low-income country. For girls, a gap of 19 years separates life expectancy in high-income (82 years) and low-income countries (63 years).
From the country level, women in Japan have the longest life expectancy in the world at 87 years, followed by Spain, Switzerland and Singapore. Life expectancy among men is 80 years or more in nine countries, with the longest male life expectancy in Iceland, Switzerland and Australia.
LONDON, June 2 (Xinhua) -- With the aim of tackling climate change, a group of UK scientists and economists Tuesday revealed a global research program that plans to boost green energy development and, at the same time, lower its cost.
The Global Apollo Program, initiated by a group of British scientists, economists and businessmen, calls for a yearly research fund of 15 billion pounds (23 billion U.S. dollars) to develop renewable energy, its storage and smart grids, according to the program report released on Tuesday.
With the new technology, clean electricity can be less costly than fossil-fueled power stations within 10 years, the report said.
For the time being, nations worldwide are not investing enough of public funds in renewable energy. As it stands, research and development (R&D) funding in this field amounts to less than two percent of the total publicly funded R&D projects, according to the report.
To change this, the program has set the goal of doubling global research spending in this area from the current two percent of the world's R&D budget. Nations joining the program would commit to spending 0.02 percent their respective gross domestic product on the R&D project and would in return gain a place on a global commission. The commission will function as a body to coordinate and direct the research.
The proposed program has been discussed by G7 energy ministers and is on the agenda for the G7 heads of state meeting in Germany in June.
One of the initiators and UK's climate change envoy, David King, said he hoped the program could be launched in November ahead of the UN climate change summit in Paris in December.
BETHLEHEM, June 16 (Xinhua) -- The World Tourism Organization (WTO) wrapped up Tuesday a two-day conference with immense success, officials said.
Jeryes Qamseya, spokesman of the Palestinian Ministry of Tourism, told Xinhua that the conference attained its goals and created a substantial manifestation for the activation of tourism in Palestine.
For the first time ever, the WTO held in Palestinian territories and the Middle East a conference in the holy city of Bethlehem to encourage and activate religious tourism in Palestinian territories.
"Conference participation was extensive and compelling, with International figures joining and it succeeded as planned and gave rise to recommendations," said Qamseya.
Around 70 countries and over 100 International figures, including eight foreign and tourism ministers, joined the two-day conference.
The United Nations World Tourism Organization sponsored the two-day conference entitled "Sustainable Religious Tourism."
Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah addressed the conference opening ceremony.
"I am proud to hold the conference in Bethlehem on our Palestinian lands as symbols of forgiveness and coexistence intermix. This international UN event is held for the very first time in Palestinian territories and is the first World Tourism Organization held here," he said.
Hamdallah expressed hope that the conference will not be the only first step towards encouraging and reactivating tourism in Palestine, "but also serve as protection of our holy land and archeological sites from Israel, currently controlling and desecrating it."
The prime minister called for unifying efforts, especially UNESCO and other international heritage organizations and associations to protect Palestinian heritage from theft and losing its integri Wholesale Soccer Jerseys China Cheap Womens Adidas NHL Jerseys Cheap Nike NFL Jerseys Wholesale
