BERLIN， April 18 (Xinhua) -- The tennis superstar Novak Djokovic was named as Sportsman of the Year and Serena Williams as Sportswoman of the Year at the 17th Laureus World Sports Award ceremony which held here on Monday evening.


The awards ceremony， hosted by Hollywood actor Bill Murray and attended by legends of sport past and present， celebrated the achievements of the greatest sportsmen and sportswomen of the year 2015. The awards were announced in seven categories.


On an extremely successful evening for the sport of tennis， Djokovic， who won three Grand Slam titles， was honored for the second time in a row and for the third time with the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year.


U.S. tennis star Williams won her fourth Laureus award after an outstanding year 2015 in which she came close to winning all four Grand Slam titles.


Rugby was the other big winner on this star-studded evening with New Zealand's rugby team， the All Blacks， taking the Laureus Team Award， while New Zealand rugby union player Dan Carter received the Laureus Comeback of the Year Award after the team' s Rugby World Cup success.


Laureus Disability Award went to Brazilian Paralympic swimmer Daniel Dias for the third time.


Germany's Jan Frodeno， who was named as the first triathlete to both Ironman World Champion and the Olympic champion， won the Laureus World Action Sportsperson of the Year Award. Niki Lauda， the three-time Formula 1 World Champion， was honored with the Laureus Lifetime Achievement Award.


The Laureus World Sports Awards， the Oscar of sports， are considered as the most prestigious awards in the international sporting calendar.
