The second instrumental factor to the birth of digital photography took place in 1972 when Steven Sasson of Kodak was asked to build a camera using solid-state image sensors which uses photosensitive diodes to record light. Steven Sasson successfully created the first digital picture in December 1975. However, the company did not release any consumer camera at that time. In 1986, Kodak finally came up with the world’s first megapixel sensor that is capable of recording 1.4 million pixels and produces a quality digital photo print of 5×7 inch. In the early 1980’s, Sony corporation also released the first prototype digital camera known as the MAVICA (Magnetic Video Camera). Mavica was an electronic video camera that created still images that were stored in two-inch floppy disks. It was only in 1994 that Apple finally released the first digital camera for consumers, which has marked the milestone in the evolution of digital photography and opened the doors for several other companies to offer their own products
