NEW YORK -- Holding any kind of lead in the American League East over the New York Yankees has been a rarity for the Baltimore Orioles, especially in July.Baltimore can widen its lead over the Yankees on Monday night when it opens a four-game series at Yankee Stadium. The Orioles are ahead of the Yankees through this point in the season for the second time in three years as they enter Monday 8 1/2 games up on fourth-place New York. Two years ago, Baltimore won the division by 12 games but at this point was only four games ahead of the Yankees.Since the franchise moved from St. Louis after the 1954 season, the Orioles have been in first place at this point 10 times. Four of those were 1966 and 1969 to 1971. Until 2014, Baltimore had not been in first place through games played of July 17 since 1997.The Orioles missed a chance increase their lead with Sundays 5-2 loss at Tampa Bay. Despite Baltimores only runs coming on a home run by Pedro Alvarez and a sacrifice fly by Manny Machado, it has won six of eight games after struggling to do much against Jake Odorizzi on Sunday. It was more us scoring any runs today, Baltimore manager Buck Showalter told reporters. We had a couple opportunities and could have cashed in on and didnt. The Yankees will try to get to .500 for the ninth time since May 22. New York salvaged the finale of its three-game series with the Boston Red Sox with Sundays 3-1 win.Masahiro Tanaka did pitch and the Yankees scored their runs on a double by Starlin Castro and singles by Austin Romine and Jacoby Ellsbury during the fourth inning against David Price. The Orioles (53-37) will look to match a season-high by going 17 games above .500 and Kevin Gausman will be on the mound. Gausman is 1-6 with a 4.14 ERA but has received the lowest run support (3.43) of any Orioles starting pitcher.Gausmans only win was June 25 against Tampa Bay when he allowed four hits and struck out seven in 7 2/3 innings. In his last two starts, Gausman has allowed seven earned runs and 16 hits in 11 innings. He has not pitched since allowing four runs and eight hits in five innings in a no-decision during a 6-4, 14-inning win at Los Angeles.Gausman has eight no-decisions this season and two were against the Yankees. In Baltimores 2-1, 10-inning victory on May 5, he allowed three hits in eight scoreless innings. A month later, he allowed one run and seven hits in six innings during a 3-1 win.The Orioles loss ensured the Yankees will not face a double-digit deficit in the AL East at this point for the first time since 1992.Its an important series, New York right fielder Carlos Beltran said. This homestand is important overall for us. I think this homestand will dictate what the future holds for a lot of guys here.Ivan Nova will be pitching on extended rest and the Yankees hope he can give them some better distance. He completed at least six innings in five straight starts from May 19 to June 9 but has failed to do so in his last five outings.Nova has a 7.02 ERA in his last five appearances and finished the first half on July 7 in Cleveland when he allowed four runs and five hits in 5 1/3 innings. The right-hander picked up a win over Baltimore in June when he allowed five runs and seven hits in six innings. Nova took a shutout into seventh before allowing home runs to Mark Trumbo and Alvarez.Nova is 7-4 with a 5.22 ERA in 16 appearances against Baltimore.Mark Teixeira will likely be out of the lineup for a few more days. The struggling first baseman fouled a ball of his left foot on Saturday and although x-rays and a CT scan came back negative, he still is sore. The Orioles have won four of six meetings between the teams in Baltimore on May 3-5 and June 3-5. Baltimore won the last two in New York last season after dropping the first seven. Samuel Girard Jersey . As the crowd erupted, Davis knocked the ball off the glass and back into his hands. With 1:14 to go in overtime, Davis sixth block also became his 17th rebound. That, along with his 32 points -- which tied a career high -- proved too much for Denver to overcome, and the Pelicans held on for their third straight victory, 111-107 on Sunday night. http://www.nhlpredatorshockeyshop.com/dante-fabbro-jersey/ . "It doesnt get any better than that," Giambi said. "Im speechless." The Indians are roaring toward October. OXFORD, Miss. -- Mississippi quarterback Chad Kelly faked the handoff and then took off running toward the end zone. A few seconds and 41 yards later, the quarterback had cruised through the middle of the Georgia defense and into the end zone untouched. It was pretty much that easy for the Rebels all afternoon. Ole Miss finally built a lead it couldnt give away.No. 23 Ole Miss rolled to a 45-14 victory over No. 12 Georgia on Saturday, building a 31-0 lead by halftime and a 45-0 advantage by midway through the fourth quarter.Kelly threw for 282 yards and two touchdowns. Ole Miss (2-2, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) broke a 10-game losing streak in the series dating to 1996.I cant think of a time in my lifetime where a team has done that to Georgia, said Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze.Georgia (3-1, 1-1) lost its first game under new coach Kirby Smart and looked overmatched. To make matters worse, star running back Nick Chubb sprained an ankle in the second quarter and didnt return. It was an impressive win for the Rebels, who have played some of their worst football this season after gaining big leads. Ole Miss led Florida State by 22 points and Alabama by 21 this season before losing both games.Weve certainly had experiences that we should have learned from, Freeze said.Kelly was sharp from the opening series, completing 18 of 24 passes and adding the 41-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that was his last play of the afternoon. Tight end Evan Engram led the Rebels with six catches for 95 yards.Ole Miss also ran for a season-high 180 yards. Derrick Jones returned an interception 52 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter. When we get in a rhythm, its hard for people to stop us, Engram said.Brian Herrien led the Bulldogs with 78 yards rushing and two touchdowns. FFreshman quarterback Jacob Eason had a tough day, completing just 16 of 36 passes for 137 yards and an interception.ddddddddddddThere are a lot of mistakes being made out there, Smart said. Lot of young guys making bad mistakes. They will have to grow up.Chubb had 57 yards rushing on 12 carries before he hurt his ankle. Smart said he wasnt sure how about the severity of Chubbs injury.MISTAKE-FREE KELLYKellys mistake-free performance against Georgia is a good sign for the Rebels. He had thrown for 953 yards and 10 touchdowns in the first three games of the season, but costly turnovers against Florida State and Alabama were crucial in those losses.Against Georgia, there were no such problems. Those losses are on me for turning the ball over, Kelly said. Weve just got to keep on looking forward.THE TAKEAWAYGeorgia: The Bulldogs were an interesting bunch after three straight wins to start the season, but after being stomped by the Rebels, it doesnt look like Georgia is anywhere near being an elite team.Ole Miss: The Rebels needed this one after blowing big leads in losses to Florida State and Alabama. Ole Miss proved it still can be a force in the SEC this season despite a tough September.POLL IMPLICATIONSGeorgia: The Bulldogs probably tumble in the rankings after being outplayed in pretty much all aspects of the game.Ole Miss: Look for the Rebels to jump a few spots.UP NEXTGeorgia: The Bulldogs host Tennessee next week in an SEC Eastern Division showdown.Ole Miss: The Rebels host Memphis in a non-conference game.-----Follow David Brandt on Twitter: www.twitter.com/davidbrandtAP .
